We built RankPoll because we were tired of watching groups make bad decisions using outdated voting methods. Ever been stuck at a restaurant nobody really wanted because of vote splitting? Yeah, us too.
Regular "pick one" voting just doesn't work well when you have multiple options. People vote strategically, favorites split the vote, and you end up with compromise choices nobody's excited about. Ranked-choice voting fixes this by letting people express their full preferences.
RankPoll started out of a passion for voting theory. The goal is to continuously improve the platform and spread the word about better voting methods.
Most polling tools just count votes and declare a winner. We show you how different voting systems would interpret the same set of preferences. Sometimes they all agree, sometimes they don't—and that's actually really interesting.
We're especially fans of Condorcet methods, which find the option that would win head-to-head against every other option. It's a powerful way to find the true consensus choice, but it's rarely used because it's hard to calculate by hand. Computers make it easy.
Don't worry though—you don't need to understand the math to use RankPoll. We've made everything simple and intuitive, even if you've never heard of ranked-choice voting before.
RankPoll includes several voting systems that academics and voting theorists have developed over the years:
We've tested our implementations against known examples to make sure they're accurate. We're also constantly tweaking things based on feedback and new research.
Accessible: No paywalls, no accounts required. Just create a poll and share the link.
Privacy first: We collect minimal data and don't track you. Check our Privacy Policy for details.
Education: We want to help people understand why voting methods matter. Our Learning Center explains the different systems without the academic jargon.
Transparency: We show all the calculations so you can see exactly how we determined the results.
